The Finest Software for Web Development
web development tools.
TextEditor: TextMate
Ditch the IDE. TextMate brings Apple’s approach to operating systems into the world of text editors. By bridging UNIX underpinnings and GUI, TextMate cherry-picks the best of both worlds to the benefit of expert scripters and novice users alike.
DMG Download TextMate (10.7 MiB).
FTP Client: Transmit
Supports Amazon S3, SSH+FTP, FTPS, and FTP. Just can’t be beat. browing synchronization, TextMate integration, keychain support, bonjour services, and full support for the unix underpinnings of OSX are just the beginning of this fantastic.

Version Control: Git + GitHub
Developed by Linus Travolds, git is by far the world’s greatest version control system. If you’re a big fan of subversion, I urge you try git. You’ll never go back. I promise.
I’m a huge fan of social networking, so the social coding site GitHub just seemed like a natural fit. The company behind it, Logical Awesome, is an inspiration.
Browser & Inspector: WebKit Nightly Builds
It doesn’t get closer to bleeding-edge than this. WebKit offers the most advanced support for CSS3 Transitions/Animations,Web Sockets, HTML5, and WebGL.
DMG Download WebKit Nightly (37.9 MiB).
CLI Shell: ZSH
Zsh comes pre-installed on every OSX System. However, to fully utilize it, you’ll have to use a great configuration file.
Package Management: Homebrew
Fink and MacPorts are great, but they take a little too much control in my opinion. A quite recent fresh, Homebrew, doesn’t.
ZIP | TAR Download HomeBrew (360 KiB).
MindMapping: MindNode Pro
I was a long time user of FreeMind for a very long time. But it just isn’t that great. Besides, it’s written in Java. Who wants that?
MindNode Pro is a rock solid & simple mind-mapping application written for OS X which keeps elegance on the top of it’s priority list. A must-have.
ZIP Download MindNode Pro (4.0 MiB).
Task Managment: Things
I used Remember the Milk for years, but I was spending so much time trying to work around the interface, I never got anything done. Things, however, is perfect. Nice, simple tasks lists. I can organize them by Project, Area of Responsibility, and Due Date. Life has never been better. And best of all: the interface freaking rocks. This is the most solid Mac OS X application I’ve ever used. Fantastic.
DMG Download Things (8.5 MiB).
Music: Spotify
Unlimited, restriction-free 320KBPS streaming for only $16 a month just can’t be beat.
